An Automatic Drawing that ended up looking like a Brain Cell Garden.

Cork cells. 17th-century illustration of cells from a sample of cork wood, as seen under a microscope by English natural philosopher Robert Hooke (1635-1703). Hooke pioneered the new science of microscopy and published detailed drawings of observations made with his microscopes. This illustration appeared in his 'Micrographia' (1665). The term cells was coined by Hooke in this work, describing the pores observed in the cork. Hooke was one of the founding fellows (1663) of the Royal Society, and served as its Curator of Experiments and Secretary.

They recognise a specific site on the surface of a pathogen or foreign object (antigen), bind to it, and attract antibodies or cells to eliminate it.

T cells attacking cancer cell, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The T cells (red) are attacking an oral squamous cancer cell (white). The cytotoxic (cell-killing) T cells are part of a natural immune response. Research being carried out in the field of nanomedicine is creating personalized cancer vaccines by loading neoantigens from a patient's tumour into nanoparticles. These nanoparticles are then used to activate the patient's own immune system, triggering the actions of T cells as seen here.

Fibroblast cells. Fluorescent light micrograph of two fibroblast cells, showing their nuclei (purple) and cytoskeleton. The cytoskeleton is made up of microtubules of the protein tubulin (yellow) and filaments of the protein actin (blue). The cytoskeleton supports the cell's structure, allows the cell to move and assists in the transport of organelles and vesicles within the cell. Fibroblasts are cells forming connective tissue, and are responsible for secreting connective tissue proteins such as collagen. Magnification: x980 when printed 10cm wide.
