Carson Pirie Scott & Co. (CSP) was an American department store founded in 1854, which grew to over 50 locations, primarily in the Midwest. The chain began in 1854 when Samuel Carson and John Thomas Pirie first clerked in Murray's Dry Goods in Peru, Illinois, then opened their own store in LaSalle, followed by one in Amboy. John Edwin Scott ran a dry goods store in Ottawa, Illinois, and later moved up to Chicago as a partner in creating CSP. When Schlesinger & Mayer went bankrupt in 1904, CSP bought their store at 1 South State Street on the corner of East Madison in 1904. The grand building would become CSP's flagship store for 114 years until the CSP closed down in 2018.

Fisher's Big Wheel was a discount department store chain. It was formed in 1939 following the consolidation of the Fisher Dry Goods company and a hardware store called Big Wheel. Fisher's Big Wheel was primarily located in smaller towns which were not already served by other discount retailers. At its peak, the chain comprised more than 100 stores in 8 states. The chain declared bankruptcy in 1993, selling some stores and closing others. Fisher's Big Wheel closed in 1994.

Chappell's was a family-owned department store chain based in Syracuse, New York. It opened in 1896 and remained in business until 1994. At its peak, it operated ten stores in the Syracuse area, Cortland, Watertown and Massena. In no particular order, malls that had a Chappell's store included Great Northern Mall (Clay, NY); Western Lights Plaza (Valley area of Syracuse, NY); Northern Lights (Mattydale, NY); Shoppingtown Mall (Dewitt, NY); Penn-Can Mall (Cicero, NY); Carousel Center (known as Destiny USA after 2012 in Syracuse, NY); Shop City Plaza (Syracuse, NY); Fingerlakes Mall (Auburn, NY); Seneca Mall (Liverpool, NY); Salmon Run Mall (Watertown, NY). There was also a stand alone store in downtown Syracuse.

Idanha-Detroit RFPD is a volunteer fire district within the cities of Idanha and Detroit in Oregon, providing fire protection, emergency medical services, vehicle rescue, and public education services since 1960.

In 1865, William G. Herpolsheimer and Charles G. A. Voigt, two young businessmen, established the Voigt, Herpolsheimer & Company, a dry goods and carpet store in Michigan City, Indiana. The partners would eventually relocate to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1870 where they would really make a name for themselves. The partnership between Voigt and Herpolsheimer ended in 1902 with Voigt taking over the flour mills they owned, and Herpolsheimer taking control of the store. Changing the name to Herpolsheimer's, William was quick to reimagine the store as an upscale shopping experience more like those found in Manhattan, stocking the latest fashions, gorgeous window displays, french chandeliers, and even an authentic tearoom.

Le Louvre des Antiquaires is a historic structure in Paris located on the Place du Palais-Royal. The building was originally constructed in 1855 as a hotel, the Grand Hôtel du Louvre. The enormous building was gradually converted to a department store, with the hotel finally closing in 1887. The department store, Grands Magasins du Louvre, operated until 1974. The building was then converted to an antiques mall, Le Louvre des Antiquaires. That business closed in 2015, and the building is currently being converted to a luxury shopping mall, set to open in 2020. Filene's opened its famous "Automatic Bargain Basement" in 1909, which became a much-visited tourist attraction. Goods were marked down according to an automatic schedule; an item that had been on sale for 12 days was marked down by 25 percent, after 18 days by 50 percent, after 24 days by 75 percent, and after 30 days it was given away. Famous for the Running of the Brides which was a one-day sale of wedding gowns, garnering local media attention because of the sight of hundreds of brides-to-be scrambling for bargains. The store stocked thousands of gowns for that day and marked them down drastically; gowns were non-returnable. Prices ranged from $249.00 to $699.00, marked down from retail prices as high as $9,000.

Remembering Fries and Schuele Blue Stamps. Fries and Schuele Department Store in Cleveland. FRIES & SCHUELE CO, one of Cleveland's pioneer dry goods stores, was also the west side's oldest department store. The original company was founded in 1868 and closed in 1979. It was located on West 25th Street near Lorain Ave across from the Westside Market. As an incentive to customers they gave out Blue Stamps.

Miller's Department Store was a chain of department stores based in East Tennessee. Miller's traced its history to the New York Racket Store, established in 1889 at 510 Market Street in Chattanooga by brothers Gus and Frank Miller. After a fire destroyed the Richardson Building in 1897, the brothers built a new store at Seventh and Market Streets that was known as Miller Brothers Department Store. Miller Brothers Department Store of Chattanooga remained a privately held company until 1973. A son of Gus Miller later become one of the founders of Miller, Inc. in Knoxville.

Bullocks Wilshire was the name of an upscale department store chain. The Los Angeles store was the flagship; it had seven stores total. Bullocks Wilshire, located at 3050 Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles, California, is a 230,000-square-foot (21,000 m2) Art Deco building. The building opened in September 1929 as a luxury department store for owner John G. Bullock (owner of the more mainstream Bullock's in Downtown Los Angeles).

S. S. Kresge, founded in 1899, was a Detroit-born dime store where shoppers could find daily needs such as housewares, linens, clothing, school supplies, and toys. It was one of America’s top three variety store chains and had 742 stores by its 40th anniversary in 1938, primarily in the Midwest and eastern U.S. In 1962 Harry B. Cunningham president of Kresge, opened the first Kmart discount store in Garden City, Michigan. Kmart stores expanded nationwide, eventually replacing Kresge stores, the last of which were sold to the McCrory Corporation by 1987.
