This Queen wasn’t born a princess. She fought, and will keep fighting for her crown until the day she is defeated. She maintains dominance, not like a bee, she does it like a wolf.

Horseshoe crabs are modern trilobites, our invertebrate ancestors. Today, these altruistic, schooling, arthropods (not crustaceans…closer to spiders) are critical to our public health. Drug development relies on testing with their blood, and we’re over-harvesting.

It’s a worm, and it’s massive!

Jumping spiders are cool for a few reasons. They’ve got excellent vision in 360 degrees, and they need it. They’re active predators, stalking their prey and leaping 30 times their body length (with accuracy!) to make the kill.

Here you can see another one of my precious boys. This pretty Indian tarantula has a fabulous coloration and stunning ornament on its carapax. Especially right after molt the intensitiy of the blue hair is amazing.

Ocean inhabitants

Its not very often that you can make 'art' from something that's dead and get away with it... but ever since a 'little boy' who would often collect flotsam and jetsam off the beaches ~ creating collections in the sand ~ I have been fascinated with the Ocean and all its wonders... To this day ~ I wonder 'why' we don't seem to have 'enough respect' and 'love' for the Oceans... as I approach middle age ~ nothing seems to have changed ~ in fact things have gotten worse... I sit here in my studio, a 'grown up' ~ listening to blues music ~ and ruminate over the loss of such a 'critical species' ~ the sharks.
