The regatta course for the Henley Royal Regatta. Along the towpath (aka the Thames Path) at Remenham in Berkshire, is a post marked for a quarter of a mile. The regatta coiurse is 1 mile 550 yards long and starts just downstream from Temple Island (in the background), finishing just downstream of Henley Bridge. Temple Island, seen here, is named after its folly, built as a fishing lodge in 1771. It is now owned by Henley Royal Regatta and is used for corporate events etc. Nikon D7100 Nikkor 18-200

As of 24 Oct 2015 1005 views For those not familiar with this one design class, here's a little background. The eight meter class is over 100 years old and the 8 meter designation does not refer to the length (they are over 40Ft. - 12 meters long), but a complex formula of length, width, sail area, etc. The oldest boat in this years championship was Jackeen, built in 1928. and the newest was Natural. Gefion was the only glass boat the rest are all wood. I love these boats and you can't take a bad shoot of any of them.

An impressionistic view of the Thames as it flows past Remenham in Berkshire, very near Henley-on-Thames.
