The Board of War, also known as the Board of War and Ordnance, was created by the Second Continental Congress as a special standing committee to oversee the American Continental Army's administration and to make recommendations regarding the army to Congress. It existed from 1776 to 1781 and was replaced by the Department of War.

The War Department existed from August 7, 1789 until September 18, 1947, when it split into the Department of the Army and the Department of the Air Force. The Department of the Army and Department of the Air Force later joined the Department of the Navy under the United States Department of Defense in 1949.

The Phoenix Drive-In Theatre was the first drive-in theater in Arizona, opening in 1941 and closing in the early 1980s. It was located at 36th Street and Van Buren, and the first screen was pink concrete with green neon and had what was described as an "Egyptian Princess" (seen on the shirt) on the street side to entice customers in. It was replaced by a less impressive red and orange metal screen in 1968.
