Couroupita guianensis, known by a variety of common names including cannonball tree, is growing at the Lions Den just out of Cooktown, it is a deciduous tree in the family Lecythidaceae. It is native to the tropical forests of Central and South America.

This image was taken at Cardwell Beach with Hinchinbrook Island in the near background. I have deliberately manipulated the colours to give a surreal feeling, by increasing colour saturation and pushing the contrast of the Hyper Colours. I hope you like the effect.
