Caga Tio is a hollow log, decorated with a face, a tiny red hat and covered with a blanket. Beginning on Dec 8 and through to Christmas Eve, the Tio is set in front of the fireplace and given a little bit to eat every night. On Christmas morning, children beat Tio with sticks while singing the traditional song: "Caga tió, caga torró, avellanes i mató, si no cagues bé et daré un cop de bastó. caga tió!" As the beating proceeds, Tio poops out presents and candies and other treats. Once Tio poops out a herring, the ceremony is complete.
