Vintage / Distressed replica of the old S & H Green Stamps logos from the mid 20th Century

S&H Green Stamps was a line of trading stamps popular in the United States from the 1930s until the late 1980s. They were distributed as part of a rewards program operated by the Sperry & Hutchinson company (S&H), founded in 1896 by Thomas Sperry and Shelley Byron Hutchinson. During the 1960s, the company promoted its rewards catalog as being the largest publication in the United States and boasted that it issued three times as many stamps as the U.S. Postal Service. Customers received stamps at the checkout counter of supermarkets, department stores, and gasoline stations among other retailers, that could be redeemed for products in their catalog.

Remembering Top Value Stamps and their mascot, Toppie the Elephant. Other stores gave out S&H Green Stamps but Kroger issued Top Value Stamps. We spent hours pasting the stamps into the books to get an alarm clock.

Remembering Plaid Stamps. Other stores issued S&H Green Stamps or Top Value Stamps, but the A&P grocery store chain issued Plaid Stamps for purchases in their stores. We spent hours pasting them in the books to redeem them for a toaster.

Remembering Eagle Stamps. Consumers in Cleveland, Ohio could earn Eagle Stamps on purchases at the May Company as well as on purchases at Pick-N-Pay Supermarkets, Leader Drug Stores, and participating gas stations and dry cleaners. Completed stamp booklets could be redeemed at the May Company for $3 credits toward merchandise purchases at May Company stores.
