Looking over the River Thames at Henley in Oxfordshire. Rising above the riverside buildings is the C16th tower of the parish church of St Mary the Virgin. Further upriver cab be seen Henley Bridge constructed in 1786. Henley is probably most famous for the annual Royal Regatta - the 'Royal' status being given when Prince Albert became patron in 1851.

Here a yellow-painted widebeam barge is moored opposite Rod Eyot, an island sitting in the middle of the river. On the island are several chalets and a brick cottage - only accessible by boat.

The road bridge at Henley on Thames which carries the A4130 from Henley in Oxfordshire over the river to Remenham in Berkshire. Built to replace an earlier wooden structure, this bridge was designed by the architect William Hayward in 1781 and was completed in 1784, the builder being John Townesend of Oxford. On the left here is the landing stage of the Leander Rowing Club reminding us that Henley is most famous for the Royal Regatta held every July (in normal times!). The bridge is a Grade 1 listed structure.

Standing on the historic bridge at Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire looking upriver. Here there are cafes, bars and restaurants overlooking the River Thames. Here also can be found boatyards where everything from rowing boats to river launches can be hired - or perhaps go on a river trip for an hour or two. Seen from the Thames path between Marlow and Henley-on-Thames, the church of All Saints in the riverside village of Bisham in Berkshire, just upstream of the National Sports Centre. A coxless pair race past Temple Island at Remenham, Berkshire, very near Henley on Thames. This section of the river is famous for the annual Henley Royal Regatta held in early July. Temple Island is situated between Henley and Hambleden. It dates from 1771 and was designed by the architect James Wyatt as a fishing lodge for a nearby house. It's now owned by Henley Royal Regatta and has been completely restored to its former glory. It marks the start of the regatta course which finishes just below Henley Bridge.
