South Los Angeles is a region of Los Angeles County. There is no set definition but most include independent cities like Compton and Inglewood. It is divided, by many locals, into east and west sides.

The La Brea Tar Pits are a group of tar pits around which Hancock Park was formed in urban Los Angeles. Natural asphalt (or tar brea in Spanish) has seeped up from the ground in this area for tens of thousands of years. The tar is often covered with dust, leaves, or water, which made it a natural trap for animals of all kinds, including humans. Over many centuries, the tar preserved the bones of animals that became trapped. La Brea Tar Pits is a registered National Natural Landmark and the on-site museum is dedicated to researching the tar pits and displaying specimens found there.

The Northeast Los Angeles region is one of Los Angeles's oldest, dating back to the annexation of Garvanza, Highland Park, and Sycamore Grove in the late 19th century. Dodger Stadium is a baseball stadium in the Elysian Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It is the home stadium of Major League Baseball's Los Angeles Dodgers. Opened in 1962, it was constructed in less than three years at a cost of US$23 million. It is the oldest ballpark in MLB west of the Mississippi River, and third-oldest overall, after Fenway Park in Boston and Wrigley Field in Chicago (1914), and is the largest baseball stadium in the world by seat capacity. Often referred to as a "pitcher's ballpark", the stadium has seen 13 no-hitters, two of which were perfect games.

1930s print from ' The Chapman Park, Hotel and Bungalows ' located on Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, California. The Chapman housed a large hotel, bungalows and swimming pool amidst a large garden and palm trees. The grounds also included ' The Zypher Room ' an upscale cocktail bar with it's entrance on Wilshire. The entire area was razed to the group in 1969 to make way for a large office building.

Monterey Park is a suburban city in the San Gabriel Valley. It is notable for it's Chinese American majority, although it has undergone changes over the years, from a predominantly Taiwanese Chinese population to a mainland Chinese and Hong Konger population. Leimert Park was created by Walter H. Leimert as a whites-only neighborhood in 1928. However, it has long been a significant cultural hub of Los Angeles's black community.

Highland Park is a neighborhood in Northeast Los Angeles. It was, along with Sycamore Grove, one of the first two communities to be annexed by Los Angeles, in 1895. In 1927, part of Annandale, Garvanza, Hermon, and York Valley (formerly New York Valley) joined together in an alliance as "Greater Highland Park."
