A summer evening in Polperro.. Travel poster Polperro, lies just a few spectacular miles along the coast from Looe. Sheltered from the ravages of time and tide in its cliff ravine, each one unmistakably the work of a Cornish fisherman. Wending your way through the traffic-free streets to the small harbour, you’re treading the paths where barrows of fish were once carted and, under cover of night, brandy casks and tobacco bales were carried into their hideouts. Make no mistake, this peaceful fishing cove, mellow Polperro, was once a thriving centre for the area’s smuggling.

Polperro The fishing village and harbour of Polperro, in South West England, is situated on the southern coast of Cornwall, 25 miles west of Plymouth. The village's quaint harbour and attractive coastline have made it a popular tourist destination and it has long been popular with artists and smugglers. Despite its idyllic appearance, life in Polperro can be tough. Violent storms in 1774,1817 and 1824 swept away houses, parts of the harbour wall and wrecked numerous boats. Date: 11th September 2016. Polperro is a village and fishing harbour on the south-east Cornwall coast in South West England, UK, within the civil parish of Lansallos. Situated on the River Pol, 4 miles west of the neighbouring town of Looe and 25 miles west of the major city and naval port of Plymouth, it is well known for its idyllic location, surrounded by tightly packed old fishermens houses which makes it attractive to tourists, and particularly in the Summer.

Polperro is one of the jewels of Cornwall. It is a must visit for us when we are in the area. This is a watercolour with pen and ink.
