St Ives Baseball T-Shirts

From my second trip to St Ives (Cornwall, UK) I awoke to find this view from the guest house where I was staying. The beach is Porth Mhor (big beach), which is popular with surfers as it faces the Atlantic and so gets long waves. They were already out there when I took the photo this painting is based on, but I chose to exclude them to focus on the scenery instead. The town is nestled in a dip on the right, casting long shadows. The lightouse in the background (Godrevy) is a feature of another of my paintings of the area. Painted in oil on 16x12 inch board

This view comes from a walk along the main shopping street in St Ives (Cornwall, UK) at around 10pm on a Summer's evening. Despite the late hour plenty of pubs and restaurants are open, and plenty of people are walking around. I caught this moment when there were just a couple of people present so as to add character without detracting from the atmospheric lighting. Painted in oil on board 12 x 16 inches

I returned to St Ives (Cornwall, UK) in Spring 2018 intending to capture some scenes of the evening to turn into paintings. One stood out, and that was the harbour with the glitsy lights of the various bars and cafes and streetlights reflecting in the high water, broken only by the dark shapes of boats. It was around 10pm and there was still a hint of light left in the sky. Painted in oil on board measuring 20x16 inches.
