Stanier 8F at Swanage The 8F class, 2-8-0, heavy freight steam locomotive, was originally designed by William Stanier for the London, Midland and Scottish (LMS) railway company. Over 800 of these engines were built between 1935 and 1946. Locomotive number 48624, seen here in black British Railways livery, visiting Swanage station in Dorset, England, was built in 1943 for the Southern Railway at the Ashford works in Kent. Stanier 8f at Picton, North Yorkshire with a rail tour from Skipton to Whitby

It's a damp misty autumn day on the North Yorkshire Moors as LMS Black 5 "Eric Treacy" leaves Goathland with a full head of steam! The Black Fives were a mixed traffic locomotive, a "do-anything go-anywhere" type, designed by William Stanier and several members of the class survived to the last day of steam on British Railways in 1968, with eighteen of the type making it into preservation.

45212 has just had new tyres and was in service on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway over Easter weekend. 45212 hauled the final steam-hauled revenue-earning service for British Railways on 4th August 1968.
