A cool gentleman with echoes of dia de los muertos. The Day of the Dead (or Hanal Pixan for the Mayan people) is a Mexican holiday and festivities take place on 1 and 2 November. It is full of joyful parades and festivites, celebrating love and respect for deceased relatives. The origins of the celebrations lie thousands of years ago with the Aztec, Toltec, and other Nahua people. In these cultures, death was not something to be mourned but a natural occurrence and the dead were kept alive in memories. During Día de los Muertos the deceased temporarily returned to the earthly world and food and drink would be left on altars to assist them after their journey.
