The Gemma Augustea cameo Baseball T-Shirt

The Gemma Augustea is one of the most famous cut gems from antiquity. The upper register features Augustus being crowned with a corona civica of oak leaves, the imperial eagle, the goddess Roma, Tiberius in a chariot, A personification of Gaia or Italia, Neptune, Victoria, and others. The Lower register is of Roma soldiers erecting a "tropaion," or war victory monument, to celebrate the defeat of the Gauls. All in all, the Gemma Augustea is an effective piece of Roman propaganda! This work was derived from an etching of the gem in the book "Augustus und seine zeit" (1891).
