Mixed media design of Cleopatra's long-lost temple

This beautiful panel of a garden scene was derived from the Prima Porta Frescoes from the so called House of Livia. These frescoes came from a basement room--where the Roman elite could keep cool in the hot summers while still enjoying this magical landscape of being outside. Some scholars have suggested that not all these plants and animals would be seen together at anyone time, therefore representing the Roman concept of cyclical time and the dawn of a new great age.

This design comes from a Minoan fresco in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The reconstruction was originally done by Emile Gilliéron.

Ancient Roman fresco Landscape from the Imperial Villa at Boscotrecase, currently in the MET

This design was derived from an antique print in Charles Mills Gayley, "The Classic Myths in English Literature and in Art," 1893

This ancient mosaic wreath dates to the 4th century CE (the late Roman Period) and was excavated in modern day Turkey. The wreath is made of laurel branches, an ancient symbol of victory, and in the middle there is also rosemary and ivy leaves. The ancient Greek inscription translates as :" Health, Life, Joy, Peace, Good Cheer, Hope." Today, this mosaic can be seen in the British Museum.

This original watercolor is based on a real ancient coin from Punic controlled Spain, minted by the enduringly-famous Hannibal, c. 221- 218 BCE.

Athena Minerva Bronze Sculpture

Amenhotep III was one of Egypt's greatest pharaohs. This design shows his coronation name "Neb-Maat-Ra" which could be translated as "Lord of the Justice of the Sun."
