Bromeliads growing in the Cloud Forests of Monteverde National Park, Costa Rica. Bromiliads are epiphytes. An epiphyte is an organism that grows on the surface of another plant and derives its moisture and nutrients from the air, rain, or from debris accumulating around it. It sometimes grows on fallen logs. It is not a parasite. What looks like a colourful flower are bracts which protect its very small flowers. Canon 6D, zoom lens.
