A late afternoon walk with my dog allowed me to catch some of the last rays of sunshine breaking through the trees while walking on a very old footpath that may have been there 2000 years ago (we have a Roman bridge nearby that goes back that long). There is something special about bright green new foliage in the Spring. Oh.. it is a cat.. stopping for a moment to see who is coming and she turned and ran away... April 2017, iPhone 7plus

In the San Diego/Baja region the manzanita is a protected, native plant with sinuous limbs either covered with red bark, or as gray dead wood. We were walking back from Green Valley Falls when the sun was low on the horizon just enough to light up the red bark and green leaves in the thicket. I was inspired to make this artistic rendition of a captured image.
