Bridge

Rumelihisari or Rumelian Castle sitting on the European bank of the Bosporus at Istanbul - where it connects the Black Sea to the Mediterranean. This is a medieval fortress built on a series of hills in 1451-52. Its construction was ordered by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II and was originally planned in preparation for a seige of Constantinople (now Istanbul) - then a Byzantine city.

Istanbul is not just a city with a glorious past, but also a city of dynamic, vibrant present and, hopefully, bright future. One of the symbols of modern Istanbul is the Bridge of Bosporus, connecting its two sides in Europe and Asia (in fact, there is one more bridge, higher up the Bosporus, but this is the "famous" one). It was inaugurated in 1973 and its construction lasted about 3 years. It's 1622m long, its height is 64 meters and it's width 33,4 meters. The distance between the 2 columns is 1074 m.
