Don Wright was a publisher of Daily Bulletin, a newspaper based in either Central City or New York City (different issues give different locations). He put on a costume to help the downtrodden and oppressed. When World War II broke out, he focused on fighting the Axis saboteurs. Captain Freedom originally displayed super-strength and limited flight, but those powers vanished shortly after his original appearance and he remained non-powered for the remainder of his appearances.

Deep Sea Dawson was a deep-sea diver who, equipped with a specialized diving helmet, explores the wonders of the ocean and investigates its mysteries. During his adventurers, Dawson encounter numerous undersea races both hostile and friendly. Some of his enemies included the Seaweed Creatures and their Queen. Dawson also had an animal sidekick named Battler, who was a trained seal saved from poachers.

Policewoman Peggy Allen is the department's best undercover operative. In order to deflect suspicion from her undercover role, usually as a nurse or maid working at the scene of the crime, she adopts the costume of the Woman in Red. She wears a red floor-length coat, a hood, and a mask. Peggy solves each case through deduction, athletic prowess, and a willingness to brandish her pistol. In some cases, she displays scientific knowledge and gadgetry, including in one story a "tear gas fountain pen." Each story ends with Peggy debriefing the police chief, who knows of her Woman in Red disguise and praises her good work.

George Chance, the Ghost, knows real magic, learning it when he was raised in India as the adopted son of an immortal yogi teacher. A woman named Betty helped him. His Archenemy was time traveller Professor Fenton. The Ghost once traveled back in time to King Arthur's court in order to stop the villainous Professor Fenton. While there he met Merlin, Morgan le Fay, Sir Kay, and King Arthur himself.

Ken Wyman comes from a wealthy family in banking but prefers life as a reporter for the Carterville Daily Blade. However, he was also the crime fighter known as Devil's Dagger. Dressed in a top hat and tux, he used a signature red-handled stiletto and the Speed Ghost, a super fast car driven by his chauffeur, Pat Gleason.

Alani, also known as South Sea Girl, was the ruler and protector of a chain of volcanic tropical islands in the South Pacific called the Vanishing Isles. She teamed up with Captain Ted to prevent oil tycoons from taking over her islands. She has no powers, but is strong enough to swim through a typhoon, can kill a shark easily, and is a knowledgeable mariner.

The Iron Skull was originally a soldier who was gravely injured during World War II (which, in this timeline, was fought partially on American soil well into 1950s). He was brought to Chicago, where Dr. Watson, a surgeon at "Chicago Hospital," worked to replace his flesh and bones with metallic components. The resulting cyborg was super-strong, resistant to bullets and capable of limited telepathy. His new face was missing a nose, giving him a skull-like appearance. By the year 1960, the Second World War wound down and reconstruction began. This year also saw a rise of rampant crime that the police struggled to contain. The cyborg decided to use his abilities to fight crime in Chicago as the Iron Skull.

After his father's death, Dusty is adopted by Joe Higgins, aka the Shield, and begins to fight crime as Dusty the Boy Detective. He later formed the team known as the Boy Buddies with the sidekick of the Wizard, Roy the Super-Boy.

Enjoy these incredible mail order rubber monster masks and horror props from the late 50s that are guaranteed to "drive girls crazy" and "make everyone shudder in fright!" We especially love the Shock Monster, Skull, Vampire Girl Werewolf and Melting Man! If only we could still mail order these Halloween treasures today.

Richard Grey Jr. lost his parents during an archaeological expedition to Mongolia, where they were killed in an ambush. Richard was raised by giant black condors native to the region, and after studying his condor foster parents, he learned to fly. Later, when he reached adulthood, he befriended a hermit monk named Father Pierre who convinced him that he should use his unique attributes to do good. Inspired by the monk's teachings, Richard adopted the costumed persona of Black Condor.

Wishing to do more to combat the criminals of Superior City, Oregon, than he could as an assistant district attorney, Rick Raleigh created the costumed identity of the Red Bee. During his adventures, he battled the likes of "Boss" Storm, Dr. Marah, and the Swordsmen Kalak and Rugi. He was a superb athlete and could control bees. He also carried a stinger gun.

Cosmic Carson was the two-fisted wise-cracking “ace pilot of the interplanetary patrol” and fought space opera themed menaces such as Brigo and the Fangmen of Jupiter, the Skullmen, Cannibals on Eros, Martians and a Plutonian “protoplasmic degenerator”.

In the American west of the 1880s, when criminals or danger threatened, rancher Jim Larrimore would become the Lone Rider. The Lone Rider had a Pinto horse called Lightning, named after the lightning-shaped blaze on his forehead. Early in his career he had a Mexican guitar-playing sidekick named Diego and a young Native American named Bright Feather.

Red Gaucho was an American who became a famous crime fighter in South America. He had a habit of laughing when he fought and used weapons such as a sword or whip. He fought Communists as wells as enemies such as Furfooz, Tad Cromer, Punchez , and Don Bacco.

King O'Leary was a newspaper editor and reporter for the Daily Sentinel who solved crimes as well as reported about them. He was aided by the Daily Sentinel's ace photographer Kitty Allen.

Called the world's greatest inventor, Sky Wizard the Master of Space built a "stratosphere plane" - an enormous flying island. He hired Capt. Dare to test fly it to China, but when Captain Dare was kidnapped by the Tibetan tyrant known as the Unholy One, he used his island and other inventions to rescue him.

Mighty Mite was Mickey, a young American boy living in the city of Rosedale. When his female friend, Teena, invited him to come to her costume party, he dressed up as a superhero named Mighty Mite. When he arrived at the party, he found that the crooks were holding the guests hostage. He managed to defeat the criminals through sheer luck rather than any particular effort. From that point on, Mickey operated as Mighty Mite 24/7. He remained supernaturally lucky but, to his credit, he tried his best to rise to his reputation and actually put some effort into crime-fighting.

During the Japanese siege of Manila, young Juan Manito is fleeing to the hills with his mother and sister when a Japanese plane strafes them, killing the mother and sister. He goes undercover with the Japanese, pretending to be a traitor, until he can direct the Japanese troops into an ambush and kill the pilot who killed his mother and sister. Manito then carries on the fight in guerrilla fashion.
