The Irishman (titled onscreen as I Heard You Paint Houses) is a 2019 American epic crime film directed and produced by Martin Scorsese and written by Steven Zaillian, based on the 2004 book I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt. The film follows Frank Sheeran (De Niro), a truck driver who becomes a hitman and gets involved with mobster Russell Bufalino (Pesci) and his crime family, including his time working for the powerful Teamster Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino).

James Riddle Hoffa (born February 14, 1913; disappeared July 30, 1975, later declared dead July 30, 1982) was an American labor union leader who served as the President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) union from 1957 until 1971.From an early age, Hoffa was a union activist and became an important regional figure with the IBT by his mid-20s. By 1952 he was national vice-president of the IBT, and was its general president between 1957 and 1971. He secured the first national agreement for teamsters' rates in 1964 with the National Master Freight Agreement. He played a major role in the growth and development of the union, which eventually became the largest (by membership) in the United States with over 2.3 million members.

Lum's was an American family restaurant chain based in Florida with additional locations in several states. It was founded in 1956 in Miami Beach, Florida by Stuart and Clifford S. Perlman when they purchased Lum's hot dog stand for $10,000.The original Lum's location closed in 1983. For a time, there was only one Lum's operating, in Bellevue, Nebraska. Opening their doors in 1965 at 6676 Telegraph Road in Bloomfield, Michigan, Machus Red Fox described themselves as "gracious dining without extravagance." The establishment was considered an upscale or 'nice' restaurant at the time, but maintained a welcoming, non-pretentious vibe that saw as many families as it did businessmen. Machus Red Fox also has an interesting place in history in that it was the last place Jimmy Hoffa was seen alive in 1975 after going to Machus Red Fox for a meeting.
