A constellation is a group of stars that appear to be close together but are actually very distant from each other. Although the constellation Lepus is ancient, it has little associated mythology, other than the possible incidental role in the Orion myth. According to Higino, it was a hare fleeing from the Orion dog. Eratosthenes added that Hermes put it between the constellations due to its great speed.
