I painted this work for an exhibition in Sydney entitled "Healing Hands" - I was painting a private commission for the surgeon at the time...and asked him if I could come into theatre with him...he took me literally and waited till the case he would be working on was actually a hand .. This drawing was the second with a medical theme. It was one of two drawings made as a thought process..... the subsequent oil painting more literal in content was exhibited in an exhibition in Sydney entitled "Healing Hands". I was working on a private commission for an orthopedic surgeon - when the exhibition "Healing Hands" came up... he allowed me to join him and the medical team during a couple of cases at St Andrews hospital in South Australia This theme what was to become two major projects. The first a 42 piece collection focusing on staff in theatre at Flinders Hospital Then a residency at Adelaide University School of Medicine in which 59 luminaries were painted and drawn at work..... in separate paintings and drawings...

I was painting a family portrait on a property near Inman Valley in South Australia 4' x 6'- a great portion of the family portrait included the scenery on the property...... pleinair painting one day, a neighboring farmer approached me and insisted I should see his tree....a magnificent specimen in the middle of a paddock... finger tip to finger tip it would take 15 peoples arm spans round the base.
