Northern Gannet

The northern gannet is a fabulous seabird to watch as it dives vertically into the sea at speeds of up to 62 mph to feed on mackerel and herring. They thrive in large colonies located on cliffs overlooking the ocean or on small, elevated rock islands. This photograph was taken along the Atlantic seaboard in the gannet's non-breeding range.

Gannets usually pair up for life and they have some endearing courtship rituals, like clicking their beaks together or bringing each other gifts like food, feathers or in this case a bunch of seaweed. Edited in Photoshop CC and Topaz Studio. See more at brian-tarr.pixels.com
