Lincoln Hawk is a truck driver who also arm wrestles for extra cash. Hawk's estranged wife Christina, who is suffering from heart disease, asks that Hawk pick up their young son Michael from military school and develop a relationship with him; Hawk had left them ten years earlier. Michael's wealthy grandfather, Christina's father, Jason Cutler, believes that Hawk has no right to be in his grandson's life. Michael distrusts Hawk initially and treats him with contempt at every turn.

This is inspired by the 1987 Sylvester Stallone arm wrestling movie, Over the Top. The underdog, Lincoln Hawk stakes everything he has for the shot of his lifetime: The World Arm Wrestling title held in Las Vegas against the five time champion, Bull Hurley. Win or lose, he redeems himself in the eyes of his son which is the ultimate prize.

Originally a Nestucca Indian fishing village called Woods, Neskowin, as it became known, was abandoned before settlers discovered its shores. It was a recreation site as early as 1876 and it wasn't settled until 1886. The creek, named Hawk Creek, gently winds down the hillside eventually meeting with Proposal Rock and the Pacific Ocean. The neighborhood located in Hawk Creek Hills is one of Neskowin's hidden treasures that stretches up the hillside overlooking Proposal Rock. The Hawk, which is often seen in Neskowin is inspired in the coastal Native American forms seen throughout the region.

Neskowin, Oregon is a little known town located just north of Lincoln City. It was originally referred to by local natives as Nestugga (or Nestucca) called "Woods," the area was eventually abandoned. Neskowin as it became known means plenty of fish; reports in the early 20th century note that the waters were black because of the abundance. Settlers eventually came in 1886, when a sailing vessel filled with wheat and lumber ran aground. It remains to this day a quiet spot on the coast, largely unchanged since the early 70's. This design is influenced by the icon landscape feature in Neskowin.
