Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox, Lisa Eilbacher, Steven Berkoff and Jonathan Banks appear in supporting roles. This first film in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise shot Murphy to international stardom, won the People's Choice Award for "Favorite Motion Picture" and was nominated for both the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1985. It was an immediate blockbuster.

I remember sitting in detention one Saturday morning eating my bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast club sandwich when I noticed that girl from Mr. Vernon's class sitting across from me. She looked so pretty in pink jeans and a gym t-shirt, I couldn't help but stare at her. I've been crushing on her for a long time. I was trying to think of a way to start talking to her when I saw her messing around with these sixteen candles and I whispered over to her and asked her if she was using them for that weird science project that we had due on Monday.
