The New Inn, Pembridge, October 2021 With its striking black and white timbered exterior, the New Inn (Pembridge, Herefordshire, England) has the distinction of being the oldest New Inn in England, and dates back over 700 years, when it was (then) a farmhouse. Inevitably perhaps, the New Inn is reputed to have not one but two resident ghosts. One is the ghost of a young woman, who awaits the return of her lover from some long-forgotten war. The other (coincidentally?) is the ghost of a soldier, resplendent in a scarlet tunic, sometimes carrying a sword, and sometimes beating his drum. Unfortunately the village of Pembridge has no Old Inn, but you can imagine how quaint that would be! Date: 26th October 2021.
