In 1939 Dr. Frank Cyr organized a conference at the University of Manhattan in order to develop school bus standards. It was at this time, the yellow color for school buses was decided because yellow is especially visible in the early morning and evening light. Although 35 states immediately switched to painting their buses yellow, it wasn't until 1974 that all school buses throughout the United States became yellow.

I would guess that these have special meaning for the owner, maybe from his first child.

The penny-farthing, also called the high wheeler, was first made in the 1870s and had a large wheel in front and were the first machines known as bicycles. This penny-farthing is parked in front of a bicycle shop and its large front wheel mading an interesting shadow against the wall of the store.

General stores were the center of the American town because they carried such a large variety of goods. This big jar of pretzels was a tempting treat for children and adults alike.
