St. Mary's Lighthouse was built in 1898 in the site of an 11th Century monastic chapel. It was a fully operational lighthouse until 1984. It is located on St. Mary's Island which is separated from the mainland near Whitley Bay at high tide.

Just after sunrise on a January morning with a pink and blue glow from the pastel colours in the sky, made for an unusual shot of St Mary's Island and its reflection in the rockpools left by the receding tide. The island is situated near the town of Whitley Bay on the North East coast of England and is cut off from the mainland each high tide as the water covers the causeway at that time.

This image was shot on a cold, sunny October morning with the impressive St Georges Church in Cullercoats reflecting on the wet sand.

The island is situated near the town of Whitley Bay on the North East coast of England and the calm conditions enabled a lovely reflection to show on the calm waters of the North Sea.

St Mary's Lighthouse and island lie north of the River Tyne and Whitley Bay on the North Sea coast of England. The lighthouse is no longer in operation and is now a museum and tourist attraction which is only accessible at low tide when the causeway is not under water. This image was taken on a sunny November morning at low tide, and is also available without the artistic filter.
