There are many well known bridges on the River Tyne around Newcastle upon Tyne. There are four of those bridges in this picture. The famous Tyne Bridge, beneath this, the High Level Bridge, then the blue Metro Bridge and finally the red Swing Bridge which was opened in 1876. The quayside in Newcastle upon Tyne provides visitors a pleasant walk alongside the river to view these bridges.

King Edwards Bay, Tynemouth is a Blue Flag beach in a small sandy bay sheltered by cliffs and grassy banks which makes it excellent for family outings as well as fishing and water sport. The bay is overlooked by Tynemouth Priory and Castle and is pictured here on a very calm, sunny November morning with the blue sky reflecting on the waters of the North Sea giving it an almost Mediterranean colour - if a little cooler!

St Mary's Lighthouse and island lie north of the River Tyne and Whitley Bay on the North Sea coast of England. The lighthouse is no longer in operation and is now a museum and tourist attraction which is only accessible at low tide when the causeway is not under water. Now a Grade II listed building the steel structure was officially opened in 1928. In this view you can also see Newcastle Quayside, a popular place for tourists to take stroll along the river.

A quiet spring morning in March just before high tide at St Mary's Island on the North East coast of England with the causeway flooding and cutting off access. The island is situated near the town of Whitley Bay on the North East coast of England and the calm conditions enabled a lovely reflection to show on the calm waters of the North Sea.

The sandy bay at Cullercoats in the North East of England is enclosed by two small piers and was once a thriving fishing village in the early 1800s and is now home to the Dove Marine Laboratory and an RNLI Lifeboat station. This image was taken from the North end of the bay just as the sun was rising above the horizon on a cold January morning with frost still showing on the roof tops of the lifeboat station.
