Alerted on 19 January 2003, the 4th Infantry Division was scheduled to take part in the Iraq War in the spring of 2003 by spearheading an advance from Turkey into northern Iraq. The Turkish Parliament refused to grant permission for the operation and the division's equipment remained offshore on ships during the buildup for the war (see below). The 191st Infantry Brigade, was first formed as part of the United States Army Reserve's 96th Division. Seemingly in 1941-42, the brigade headquarters was inactivated as part of conversion of the 96th Division from a two-brigade, four-regiment division to a three-regiment 'triangular' division. The 509th Infantry Regiment is an airborne infantry regiment of the United States Army. The 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), an operational unit of the United States Army Special Forces, was activated on 20 May 1960.
