Point Supreme Overlook - Cedar Breaks - Utah - Vertical by Debra Martz I had no idea what to expect when arriving at Cedar Breaks...just that it was a National Monument and within fairly close proximity to Zion National Park which was what brought us to the area. Firstly, the drive along hwy 14 was impressive with the climb in elevation and passing by old lava flows! But to arrive at the visitors center and walk out to Point Supreme Overlook at an elevation of 10,350 ft and see this huge amphitheater somewhat similar to Bryce Canyon National Park was a complete surprise. Cedar Waxwings at the Watering Hole by Debra Martz A rather large number of Cedar Waxwings flew overhead as I was making my way back from a hike out on Golden-Check Warbler trail. When I reached the Agarita Blind I slipped inside to see if any had stopped here...and they had. Mostly, they were in the shrubs eathing berries and then started going back and forth to the water. Turquoise Pool Midway Basin Yellowstone Wyoming by Debra Martz After Excelsior on the left side of the boardwalk is Turqoise Pool. It is also where the Midway Geyser Basin boardwalk begins a loop trail. In 1878, the Hayden Expedition named this pool for its milky, white bottom and gem-like, blue-colored water. Bear Crossing trail into the gorge to the Rio Grande River is one of two trails here that I've not hiked. It is rated Extremely Difficult and you don't have to venture out on the trail very far to find it is rated correctly. The average drop into the gorge from most of the trails is 800' and takes you through towering Ponderosa Pines. Ring-billed Gull Handrail Walker ©Debra Martz What I can say other than to advise keeping your hands off the handrails! This one was using the rail to stroll slowly along, stop and check the waters below for possible prey and stroll again leaving its mark. Even when I walked on by, it did not depart the rail. Cumbres and Toltec Narrow Gauge Train by Debra Martz I've taken this scenic steam engine train ride from Antonito, CO to Chama, NM on several different occasions. It is a spectacular day filled with awesome views as you travel over high trestles, through tunnels, and along narrow shelves above deep gorges. At other times, while visiting Chama, NM, I've joined the enthusiastic "train chasers" to capture the train in action. I highly recommend the scenic ride but chasing the trains is tons of fun, too! I enjoyed an early morning walk on Bourbon Street and other French Quarter Streets nearby while there were no crowds. We had enjoyed music here the previous afternoon with a live band performing. Musical Legends Park is centrally located on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of NOLA. The Park is a tribute to New Orleans Musical Legends and includes a series of commemorative displays, plaques and artwork. The sculptures seen here are the great Fats Domino, Al Hirt and Pete Fountain. Musicians are invited to play for outdoor audiences and the performances are free to the public. By the 1960s the post moved to a larger facility and in 1965, following Hurricane Betsy, the McDonough NO 35 high school found refuge there. Nature's Tapestry by Debra Martz Along the Riverwalk Trail in Zion National Park, one will find several areas where the lower canyon walls weep. They weep from dripping springs which in turn create gardens on the walls. After a heavy rain or during spring runoff, the canyon walls may be streaming with falling water. Some of Zion's waterfalls are spectacular but mostly ephemeral; some last only minutes. Yet their tracks remain visible. Lodgepole Pines Yellowstone Wyoming by Debra Martz The most common cone-bearing trees in this national park are lodgepole pines, which cover as much as 80% of Yellowstone. The name Lodgepole is derived from some American Indian tribs which used this tree to frame their tipis or lodges. At the Old Faithful Inn you will find log walls also made with the lodgepole pine. The dead lodgepole pine trees in the foreground, seen at the Fountain Paint Pot boardwalk, are pioneers that did not survive. These trees drowned when the nearby hot springs shifted, in addition, silica also penetrated the trees and hardened their bases. Over The Top on the High Roller In Las Vegas by Debra Martz What an experience to take the 30 minute ride and see all of Las Vegas and beyond! Will have to do this again if I return, but for a sunset ride. High Roller is a 550-foot tall, 520-foot diameter giant Ferris wheel on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, United States of America. Each of the enclosed capsules will hold 40 people. It was our lucky day as we had a capsule all to ourselves! Great timing on our arrival because the wheel does not stop to load passengers. The door opens and you walk on as it continues to move. Another thermal pool along the boardwalk in the Midway Geyser Basin is Opal Pool. . Though usually active as a hot spring,approximate temperature of 132 °F (56 °C), Opal Pool is considered a fountain-type geyser though eruptions are infrequent. The first recorded eruption of Opal Pool was in 1947 and it occurred infrequently until they stopped in 1953. The eruptions reemerged in 1979 erupting without much warning. The Stately Great Blue Heron by Debra Martz A pose you will see often if you watch these Herons. They often stand motionless when scanning for prey or wades belly deep with long, deliberate steps. Seashell on the Beach by Debra Martz It was a beautiful day for a walk on the beach. This shell had just freshly washed ashore. A close look with the zoom and you can see the bubbles of water on it. A beach walk is never the same even if you are covering the same area over and over. Some days there are many shells and some days only a few. This day walk was at the Mustang Island State Park located between Port Aransas and North Padre Island, Texas, along the Gulf of Mexico.

Vistas of the San Isabel forest, Sangre de Cristo mountains and examples of the many geological dikes in the Spanish Peaks area can be observed from here.
