Cowboy Capital - Bandera - Texas by Debra Martz One cannot walk nor roam around Bandera, Texas without noticing the western feel of the town. From horse art to boots to western murals, you'll find it here. You will, also, see a sign on the edge of town "Welcome to Bandera, Texas, Est.1853, Cowboy Capital of the World" and taking a stroll around the courthouse you will find the Monument honoring the Cowboy Champions of Bandera County. Seashell on the Beach by Debra Martz It was a beautiful day for a walk on the beach. This shell had just freshly washed ashore. A close look with the zoom and you can see the bubbles of water on it. A beach walk is never the same even if you are covering the same area over and over. Some days there are many shells and some days only a few. This day walk was at the Mustang Island State Park located between Port Aransas and North Padre Island, Texas, along the Gulf of Mexico.

Another thermal pool along the boardwalk in the Midway Geyser Basin is Opal Pool. . Though usually active as a hot spring,approximate temperature of 132 °F (56 °C), Opal Pool is considered a fountain-type geyser though eruptions are infrequent. The first recorded eruption of Opal Pool was in 1947 and it occurred infrequently until they stopped in 1953. The eruptions reemerged in 1979 erupting without much warning. The Stately Great Blue Heron by Debra Martz A pose you will see often if you watch these Herons. They often stand motionless when scanning for prey or wades belly deep with long, deliberate steps. John Minor Wisdom United States Court of Appeal Building New Orleans Louisiana by Debra Martz New York architect James Gamble Rogers originally designed the 3 story granite building as a post office combination court building in 1909 with an opening in 1915. By the 1960s the post moved to a larger facility and in 1965, following Hurricane Betsy, the McDonough NO 35 high school found refuge there. After a number of renovations, and most currently the one after Hurricane Katrina, it now houses the US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the headquarters for the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals that hears cases throughout Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana. The building is named for...

I enjoyed an early morning walk on Bourbon Street and other French Quarter Streets nearby while there were no crowds. We had enjoyed music here the previous afternoon with a live band performing. Musical Legends Park is centrally located on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of NOLA. The Park is a tribute to New Orleans Musical Legends and includes a series of commemorative displays, plaques and artwork. The sculptures seen here are the great Fats Domino, Al Hirt and Pete Fountain. Musicians are invited to play for outdoor audiences and the performances are free to the public. Scissor-tailed Flycatcher the Oklahoma State Bird by Debra Martz I had spent quite awhile watching one of these from the end of a boardwalk but it was off a ways in the distance. I waited and waited for it to take flight but no such luck. Then as I was leaving, at the far other end of the boardwalk I looked up to see this beauty perched above me on a vine that was spreading over the top of a Live Oak Motte. The range of the state bird of Oklahoma is much of south-central United States and spends it winters in Mexico and Central America. I captured this one in early March on Padre Island at Corpus Christi, Texas.

White Feather on Gold Dust y Debra Martz With a little enhancement to the color of the sand, it went from very light and dull to more gold in color with some sparkle! That's the way I was imagining this minimalist image to appear!

Pink Amaryllis Dance by Debra Martz Stopped by my neighbors and saw this beautiful flower blooming in her courtyard. With permission, I came back with my camera. Then created this by adding movement digitally and 2 layers of textures.

Bear Crossing trail into the gorge to the Rio Grande River is one of two trails here that I've not hiked. It is rated Extremely Difficult and you don't have to venture out on the trail very far to find it is rated correctly. The average drop into the gorge from most of the trails is 800' and takes you through towering Ponderosa Pines. Turquoise Pool Midway Basin Yellowstone Wyoming by Debra Martz After Excelsior on the left side of the boardwalk is Turqoise Pool. It is also where the Midway Geyser Basin boardwalk begins a loop trail. In 1878, the Hayden Expedition named this pool for its milky, white bottom and gem-like, blue-colored water. Park Road View - Cedar Breaks - Utah by Debra Martz Thank goodness for wide spots in the road! We were driving along the Park Road in Cedar Breaks National Park, between overlooks, when this scene came into view! I loved the yellows and greens along the edge leading to the orange and reds of the earth below and the mountains fading off in the distance. Tropical Zone Pathway by Debra Martz Upon arrival at Estero LLano Grande State Park you are "greeted" with this beautiful sight. This is the starting point into the area referred to as the Tropical Zone in the park. The pink in the distance is a very large bougainvillea. In this area you will find Palm Trees, a big Banyan Tree, Orchid Trees and many fruit trees and much more. It is a wonderful place to enjoy watching for birds, butterflies, dragonflies and other insects that thrive in this beautiful nature setting. This is a state park of Texas located in Weslaco near the border of Mexico.

Bug Light Under a Dramatic Sky by Debra Martz It was a cloudy, windy, and rather cold day but that atmosphere added to the overall mood of this image of Bug Light aka South Portland Breakwater Light. The lighthouse was originally built in 1855, as a wooden structure, replaced with a classical iron structure in 1875. The light was fully restored in 1989 and was reactivated in 2002. It appears as a private aid to navigation in the US Coast Guard Light List as South Portland Breakwater Light. Construction of the fortress in the distance was started around 1858. Blue Dragonfly by Debra Martz I was on one of my regular bird watching outings but not many birds to bee seen on this particular day. As I was leaving a place called Paradise Pond in Port Aransas, TX I spotted this beautiful dragonfly on this single stem rising above the water. I'm not sure which type it is, maybe a Blue Dasher. Great Roadrunner takes a Brief Pause by Debra Martz Meep meep!! Catch me if you can!!! They are fast birds that prefer to run rather than fly. And boy can they run....up to 15 miles an hour and maybe even faster when on to prey. This one stopped briefly on the road where I was walking, showed off its beautiful crest of colored of feathers, and off again like a flash.

It was the sky that first grabbed my attention and then the beautiful nature which combined for a lovely landscape.

Walking Tree - Bryce Canyon Utah by Debra Martz While hiking the Rim Trail between two of the overlooks at Inspiration Point, I needed to stop for a breather!! What better place to take a break than beside this gnarly tree with the roots like legs "walking" along the edge!! And believe it or not, this pine still had several branches of green. St Dunstan Basilica Pipe Organ Charlottetown PEI by Debra Martz The 89-year-old pipe organ originated from a retired church in Montreal and was relocated to St. Dunstan's Basilica in Charlottetown in 2012. Zion Riverwalk Hike by Debra Martz This hike is a two mile round trip that follows the river. Where this hike ends, the Narrows hike begins. If you are willing to get your feet wet...and often deeper...you can continue if the weather permits. We hiked to where the Narrows begins but only imagined what it would be like to continue.
