The North America Nebula (NGC 7000 or Caldwell 20) is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus. Shape of nebula resembles continent of North America. It consists mostly of hydrogen gas, which causes reddish color of this picture. This deep sky object is located approx 1600 light years away from Earth. NGC 281 is also known as Pacman Nebula, for its resemblance to the video game character. NGC 281 is an H-alpha region in the constellation of Cassiopeia and it is 9500 light years away from Earth (so, it is still inside our galaxy). Picture taken with newton telescope 750mm focal length and scientific CCD camera. This is composition of H-alpha (hydrogen gas) line and RGB image. Total exposure time: 2 hours.

As I contemplated the deep space image of the nebula in Orion, I made marks with colored pencils to help me explore the intricate clouds of dust and gas which coalesce to make new stars. This is not a drawing of the nebula, but a "variation" on that site of creation. Get a photo of the nebula and see the differences.
