The Divine Comedy is an Italian narrative poem written by Dante Alighieri in 1308 and completed around 1321. It is widely considered one of the greatest works of world literature and is divided into three major sections: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. The narrative traces the journey of Dante from darkness and error to the revelation of the divine light, culminating in the Beatific Vision of God. The Divine Comedy is a moving human drama, an unforgettable visionary journey through the infinite torment of Hell, up the arduous slopes of Purgatory, and on to the glorious realm of Paradise, the sphere of universal harmony and eternal salvation.

In Greek mythology, Lethe also referred to as Lemosyne, was one of the five rivers of the underworld of Hades. Also known as the Ameles potamos (river of unmindfulness), the Lethe flowed around the cave of Hypnos and through the Underworld where all those who drank from it experienced complete forgetfulness. Lethe was also the name of the Greek spirit of forgetfulness and oblivion, with whom the river was often identified. The plan of the divisions of hell from my 1893 copy of Dante's Divine Comedy The Inferno looked very like an ice cream cone. I have therefore turned it into one with some marbled paper scoops and a ghoulish chocolate flake. A faintly disturbing ice cream perhaps for the holiday from hell.
