Madam Satan was a mortal woman. When she found out her fiancé's parents didn't approve of her impending marriage, she murdered them. As they were dying, they managed to tell their son who had done the deed. Naturally, the fiancé wasn't happy to hear that, and he wound up killing her. The murderess went to Hell, where she became a loyal servant to Satan himself. Her job was to seduce men into losing their souls. Brother Sunbeam was her arch-enemy. He tried to capture her in a bottle but, never could.

Originally Kitty Kelly was an air hostess who wanted desperately to become a pilot. During the course of her appearances, she ran into spies, saboteurs and general criminal types but, she won through luck as much as she did through effort. The feature was later renamed Kitty Kelly: Yankee Girl. She then abandoned this name, changed professions to become a social worker, and gained a costume emblazoned with her initials "KK" as she lacked a superhero identity. Under times of extreme stress Kitty Kelly could gain super strength and self propelled flight.

Sheena was the first female hero in comics, and the first female character to get her own self-titled comic book. Sheena was the child of explorer Cardwell Rivington. However, her father was killed accidentally by a native witch doctor named Koba. Koba then raised Sheena as his own daughter because he felt it was his duty. Once grown, she became queen of the tribe and met Bob Reynolds, whom she chose as her mate. In her second origin, Sheena was an orphan of missionaries. Bob was called Rick Thorne and Koba's role was fulfilled by a female witch named N'bid Ela.

Jane Arden was an internationally syndicated daily newspaper comic strip which ran from 1927 to 1968. The title character was the original "spunky girl reporter," actively seeking to infiltrate and expose criminal activity rather than just report on its consequences and served as a prototype for later characters such as Superman supporting character Lois Lane and fellow comic strip heroine, Brenda Starr.
