Great Western Railway pannier tank locomotive 3738. This locomotive, designed by Collett, is one of the 57xx class. It was built at the Great Western Railway works at Swindon in 1937 and saw service at Old Oak Common. After being sold for scrap, it was bought by the Great Western Society and now runs regularly at the Didcot Rail Centre, Oxfordshire.

A digital art image of Castle Class locomotive 'Pendennis Castle' waiting at a country station. This is a locomotive with a prodigious history. It left the Great Western Railway's Swindon works in 1924 and in 1925 successfully took part in trials against the A4 Pacifics on the LNER between Kings Cross and Doncaster. In 1925 it was exhibited in the British Empire Exhibition as the most powerful express locomotive. It was finally withdrawn from service in 1964 and is now preserved at Didcot.

Built at the GWR’s Swindon Works in 1934 to Charles Collets design, 5029 Nunney Castle was one of a 171 strong class designed to haul the fastest of the GWRs express passenger services. Named for the castle near Frome in Somerset, 5029 spent much of her working life based at Old Oak Common depot in London. The engine moved to Worcester in 1958, then had spells at Newton Abbot and Laira before a final transfer in December 1962 took it to Cardiff East Dock, where it was to remain until being withdrawn along with other members of its class in December 1963.

Hercules Pulls Into Paignton Number of views as of 24th April 2019 = 1090. Hercules, a 4200 class, 2-8-0 tank locomotive pulls into Paignton station on the Dartmouth Steam Railway line in South Devon, England. Built in the Great Western Railway's Swindon works in 1920, locomotive number 4277 spent much of its working life hauling freight trains in South Wales. After 20 years lying dormant in a scrapyard near Barry, the engine was purchased and presumably restored but I don't know who by. Lady of Legend, August 2021 Locomotive number 2999 'Lady of Legend' is something of a rarity since none of the original Saint Class locomotives designed by George Jackson Churchward for the Great Western Railway were preserved. That being the case, the Didcot Railway Centre (Oxfordshire, England) began a project in the 1970s to build a new 'Saint'. Lady of Legend (completed in 2019 after many months of painstaking restoration work) is the end result. The frames and boiler were adapted from a Hall class locomotive 'Maindy Hall', recovered from Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, South Wales. Date: 15th August 2021.

Trojan, Didcot, August 2021 "Trojan" is an 0-4-0 ST (Saddle Tank) locomotive, built in 1897 by the Avonside Engine Company of Bristol. She was originally operated by Messrs Dunn & Shute of Newport Town Dock and later by the Alexandra Docks Railway, also in Newport (South Wales). In 1923, the Alexandra Docks Railway was absorbed into the Great Western Railway and Trojan was allocated the number 1340. Withdrawn from service by the GWR in 1932, that certainly wasn't the end of the line for Trojan. She moved to the Netherseal colliery in Burton-on-Trent and then onto Alders of Tamworth in 1947, before arriving at Didcot in 1968. 7822 Foxcote Manor An ex Great Western Railway 4-6-0 Manor Class locomotive, number 7822 'Foxcote Manor' runs around its rake of coaches to head up the 12:15 service from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead on the West Somerset Railway, the UK's longest heritage railway route. The locomotive was built in the Great Western Railway's Swindon works in 1950. After being withdrawn from service in 1965, it was rescued from Woodham Brothers scrapyard in Barry, South Wales in 1974 and subsequently restored to its former glory. Foxcote Manor is currently resplendent in all black British Railways livery. Date: 26th August 2018

The GWR 5700 Class, or 57xx class, was a class of 0-6-0 pannier tank steam locomotive, built by the Great Western Railway (GWR) and British Railways (BR) between 1929 and 1950. With 863 built, they were the most prolific class of the GWR, and one of the most numerous classes of British steam locomotive. *Class 43 departing Dawlish, September 2021* A Great Western Railway class 43 (High Speed Train) departs Dawlish station on the South Devon line between Exeter and Plymouth (England). The line was originally constructed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel as part of his 'atmospheric railway' project, which was eventually abandoned in favour of conventional trains due to technical problems. In 2014, a large section of the sea wall was washed away during stormy weather, and the future of the line was left in doubt. Thankfully however, engineers have done a great job of rebuilding the wall as can be seen from the photograph, and one of the UK's most scenic sections of railway has been preserved, for now at least.
