HMS Victory is a 104-gun first-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, ordered in 1758, laid down in 1759 and launched in 1765. She is best known for her role as Lord Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar on October 21st 1805.

"England expects that every man will do his duty" was a signal sent by Vice-Admiral of the Royal Navy Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson from his flagship HMS Victory as the Battle of Trafalgar was about to commence on 21 October 1805.

It was at the Battle of Copenhagen in the year 1801, that Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson was ordered to retreat from the battle. He held his telescope to the eye patch of his blinded eye, looking for the flagship's order, as he said, "I see no ships" deliberately disobeying his orders to retreat. Nelson turned to his flag-captain and said, ‘Foley, you know that I have lost an eye, and have a right to be blind sometimes’.
