The Lady of the Lake, an enchantress also known as Viviane (pronounced VIV-ee-uhn) or Nimue (pronounced neem-OO-ay), appears in many of the tales of King Arthur. She is remembered best for her relationships with the knight Lancelot and the magician Merlin.

Inspired by the Arthurian legend.

Painted after marching up Parachute Rocks as an excuse to let me legs rest! Shortly after a man turned up, dropped his trousers and jumped in the lake. The inspiration got me doing the same!

A mermaid Lady of the Lake I made for #DrawMerMay2023!! This is one of my very favorites so far. In Arthurian legend, she is the fae lady who fostered Landelo du Lac and gave the enchanted sword Excalibur to the once and future King Arthur.

Lady of the Lake

In this original illustration by Richard H. Fay, the Lady of the Lake holds the mystical sword Excalibur, sheathed in its magical scabbard, aloft from the surface of her watery abode. The sword and scabbard are based on a British sword of circa 50 BC, which would already have been ancient in the Arthurian Era.
