The Mamas & the Papas were a folk rock vocal group formed in Los Angeles, California, which recorded and performed from 1965 to 1968. The group was a defining force in the music scene of the counterculture of the 1960s. The group consisted of Americans John Phillips, Cass Elliot, and Michelle Phillips and Canadian Denny Doherty. Their sound was based on vocal harmonies arranged by John Phillips, the songwriter, musician, and leader of the group, who adapted folk to the new beat style of the early 1960s.

The Legends Of Laurel Canyon Design celebrates the infamous Hollywood Hills home of some of the biggest names in music from the Sixties and Seventies. Counted amongst the one time residents of the Canyon are Frank Zappa, The Byrds, The Mama's And The Papa's, Carole King, Joni Mitchell and John Mayall to name but a few.

Cass Elliot, best known as “Mama Cass” of the pop-rock group The Mamas & The Papas, was a standout talent of the 1960’s and 70’s. A pioneer pop-culture feminist and icon, she was one of the greatest singers of her generation, and the powerhouse voice behind “California Dreamin’”, “Monday Monday”, and “Dream a Little Dream of Me” - songs which defined a new musical era by blending the genres of folk, rock and pop into a trademark sound.
