One more of the "trademarks" of Mykonos is this beautiful byzantine church, Panagia Paraportiani. It is one of the oldest in the island. It is also one of the most "famous" churches in the Aegean and certainly the most famous of Mykonos. "Paraportiani" means "by the door" and it took its name from a nearby door of the old and now almost "dissapeared" castle. Many people think that the building is only one church, while Panagia Paraportiani is only a small church on the "1st floor" where the dome is and there are two diferent churches on ground level all of them "stuck" together. Above Plaka, Milos' capital, on the way to Kastro, the old castle of the island, you can enjoy on of the most spectacular sunsets of the Aegean. You can also see the remains of the old castle and three beautiful churches. The one to the left, is Panagia Thalassitra (1738) and a bit more to the right is the tiny church of Panagia Eleousa. On the top of the castle you can also visit another church, Mesa Panagia or "Skinitiossa". Chorio, the old capital of Halki (Chalki), with 4,000 inhabitants in its heyday, is now deserted and mostly in ruins. Built around the hill upon which the remains of the Kastro stands (the castle of the Medieval Knights of St John), the town was built in a position concealed from view from the sea, and high above the initial maraudings of pirates. On August 14th, the population ascends to Chorio for the Festival of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, when the beautiful Church of the Virgin Mary (Panagia) is opened, and the church hall is full, with feasting and dancing. The church has a number of beautiful frescoes that make it a major tourist attraction.

Camera: Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III This one is Pyli bridge, located about 1,5 km after Pyli town right beside the road that goes from Pyli to Elati. It was constructed on 1514 by St. Vissarion and connects the banks of Portaikos river and two mountains, Itamos and Koziakas. It is 20 km far from Trikala city and until 1936 it was the only passage between the mountainous villages of Aspropotamos region and the plains of Trikala. Its arch has a width of 28,20 m., its height is 13,30 m and its total length is 65 m.
