Reflection Nebula Hoodies

Another picture especially (but not only) for connoisseurs: reflection nebula NGC 1333 in the constellation Perseus, surrounded by dark dust. It is approximately 750-1000 (depends on source) light years away from Earth. This nebula is one of the closest to Earth areas of the formation of new stars, rich in young stars. In the initial stage of life young stars are not visible because they are obscured by dust. Picture taken with newton telescope (750mm focal length) & astronomy monochrome camera.

Reflection nebula. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of the reflection nebula IC 349. This nebula (also known as Barnard's Merope Nebula) shines as it reflects the light of the nearby star Merope (23 Tauri), which is out of frame at upper right. The nebula is composed mainly of small dust particles. IC 349 is so close to Merope that the star's light and solar wind pushes the dust away from it, a phenomenon known as radiation pressure. This affects smaller dust particles more than larger ones. The spikes seen pointing towards upper right comprise larger particles which have not been blown backwards as much as others.

M78 reflection nebula, optical image. M78 measure around 4 light years across and is one of the brightest reflection nebulae in the night sky. It is located in the constellation of Orion, some 1400 light years from Earth. The bright glow is light from hot young stars reflecting off the dust contained in the nebula.

Open cluster NGC 7129 - a cluster of stars located in Cepheus. According to a recent survey there are more than 130 very young stars of the age under 1 million years. This cluster is associated with the reflection nebula IC 5134, which is illuminated by the light of these stars. The nebula resembles a rosebud - young stars blown big "balloon" in the molecular cloud that surrounded them during their birth. Those jewels are located in Cepheus, about 3,000 light-years from Earth. They are accompanied by open cluster NGC 7142, distant 6200 - 7600 years light of Earth.
