Defunct Peoria Prancers Hockey 1982-1984

Peoria Prancers were an International Hockey League team from 1982-84. The franchise was taken over by the Peoria Civic Center in 1984, which held a contest with the Peoria Journal Star newspaper to rename the team. Rivermen was the winner.

City Pride: Peoria, Illinois

Back in the 1980s a huge number of businesses (and people) left Peoria for greener pastures. The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce drew up bumper stickers with the above sentiment to distribute to folks who intended to stick around. All proceeds from the sale of this item go to the Peoria Area Food Bank.

The Peoria Distillers were a minor league baseball team that existed on-and-off from 1894 to 1917. They played in the Western Association from 1894 to 1896; the Central League in 1900, 1904 and 1917; the Western League from 1902 to 1903; and the Three-I League from 1905 to 1917. Under managers David Drohan and Charley Stis, they won their first League Championship in 1911. In 1916, they won their second and final League Championship under the guidance of William Jackson.

Yet another one that's gone but not forgotten. My parents used to take me here when I was little. Good times.

Did my best to recreate the marquee from the 1930s when it first opened. Sadly, it's a Walgreens now. I saw Dick Tracy there right before they tore it down.

Ah, Fogler's. Home of random hobby supplies and discount candy. On the corner of McClure and Knoxville. Good times.

Remember the ads? I still have the jingle in my head. Flamingo Beauty Colllllllllledge. This is the signage from the mid 1960s. Super fly.

Ah, Szolds, in downtown Peoria. Long gone, never forgotten. This is an older logo from a 1960s ad. Remember layaway? Good times.

Their tenderloins were so gigantic, but I was a picky kid so I just ate the burgers. If I remember correctly they were pretty dang good.

Ah, the classy place in town that cost more than my parents wanted to pay. Always nice to take a break from shopping and lay on the mattresses. This was a friend's request and the logo isn't the sharpest but...still...good memories here.

Debuting as an album rock station in 1976, the station known simply as “106” quickly became one of Peoria’s favorites. “Rocking’ with the Best” and “The Home of Rock n Roll” were slogans that every Peorian knew. A morning show with a string of popular hosts and personalities, including Pete On the Street McMurray, riveted listeners and won accolades. The good times continue, but the WWCT call letters and the 106 nickname were changed in the early 2000s.

RIP to a real one, Pete Vonachen. Did so much for the city but who could forget that great food at the Junction?

Bergner's, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott...all gone. But who could forget going to Bergner's at Sheridan Village in the winter with the vents blowing hot air?

Remember Jumer's? I used to love those little sweet rolls, but not much else cuz I was a picky eater. And of course the giant bear in the hallway.

Ah, so many memories of drinking coffee and hanging out at Lums while growing up in Peoria. Enjoy the nostalgia!
