Axolotls (Ambystoma mexicanum),also known as the Mexican walking fish, is a neotenic salamander. Axolotls are unusual among amphibians in that they reach adulthood without undergoing metamorphosis. Instead of developing lungs and taking to the land, adults remain aquatic and gilled.
