Bruin Pennsylvania Petroleum Products was founded in the early 1920s in Bruin, Pennsylvania. Doing business as 'Butler County Oil Refining Company,' Bruin produced Bruinoil brand motor oils and Bruin brand gasoline, referring to them as "The Bear of Them All." Located between the railroad line and what is now Route 268, the Bruin refinery was a massive facility that employed many Pennsylvanians during its run. And like most early petroleum manufacturing facilities, the location was eventually designated as the number 3 toxic waste site (The Bruin Lagoon) on the EPA's SuperFund list.
