Veni Vidi Voltage - I came, I saw, I was shocked. A play on words, featuring my photo of doors leading to a high voltage installation.

While there is no shortage of brand name guitar amplifiers out there, musicians looking for something with a more personalized sound usually look for something custom. For decades, many guitar players found their sound through a boutique amplifier from the aptly named Ed's Amps in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ed Stapley opened his shop up in 1963, initially providing repair services to the Big Easy's numerous blues and jazz musicians. Guitarists soon realized that their amps came out sounding better than they did when new, and soon had Ed 'fixing' amps that weren't broken. Eventually, Ed broke free from the constraints of factory made amplifiers in favor of building his own from scratch.

Arrrgh! It's the classic jolly roger reimagined as a symbol for those folks passionate about analog music. Record lovers, guitar players and tube stereo listeners.

The heart of the signal chain is the glowing vacuum tube. Whether you are playing through an old tweed amp or dropping you favorite piece of vinyl onto the turntable, it's the humble vacuum tube that gives the sound color.

Here I create a grouping bases purely on the original power and control of electricity. Amps, volts and ohms are stuff of our school-day physics lessons but in the days before digital, dials and control was very analogue.
