Art by Duy Truong.................... This is the seventh book in the illustrated historical series, The Wurtherington Diary. This is a stand-a-lone story and is part two of the real-life adventures Tammy had with Buffalo Bill Cody. Of course she is in good company with Alfred the mouse, Zeke the orphaned opossum, Cedric, the mischievous mongoose, and Polly, the goodhearted bird. This part of Tammy's diary takes place about nine years later when Wild Bill Hickok and Buffalo Bill were friends. As with all the Wurtherington Diary books, this one abounds in developing worthwhile feelings for its young readers. Things like honesty, compassion, and respect for others abound on very page. For example, Tammy sees that the extinction of the ...

The Wurtherington Diary Tammy meets William Tell ( book five in the series) Art by Duy Truong............Aunt May served hotcakes and sausages at the breakfast table. Lord Wixby gave me a good morning kiss as he always did and read the morning paper while he ate. Mark was wearing a strange outfit with suspenders and a feathered hat. It should have dawned on me that the space-time continuum had been disrupted again. However; I paid little attention to it until I opened the front door and saw that the town had a Bavarian look to it with cute little houses and pointed roofs. A pair of soldiers sat behind sandbags on the street corner wielding bows and arrows. Mark gave a salute and nudged me. "Tammy, you must salute them," he said.

Art by Duy Truong ( The Wurtherington Diary)........... I explained that we all needed outfits and we were quickly ushered into a fine haberdashery. Zeke and Cedric loved standing in front of the mirror admiring their new look. We purchased Bavarian clothing that would suit our time traveling adventure. In a short time we looked very much like the Kakuna elves with pointed feathered hats and short pants. Polly found a hat too. "Caw, caw, caw!" she said when she looked into the mirror.Zeke agreed, "That hat is perfect for you, Polly! Art by Duy Truong.................This is our first drawing in book seven of our Wurtherington Diary Series." Buffalo Bill and the Indians." Mark said he wanted to show me some magic tricks. I met him in his bedroom where he had it all set up. Of course I brought Cedric, Zeke, and Polly with me. He had a little stage set up and a banner that read, Mark the Magnificent. We all took a seat and he was quite amazing with the illusions. He was very insistent that he be called an illusionist which is a step up from being a magician. He did card tricks, mind reading, and then escaped from a pair of handcuffs. He saved his best trick for last when he disappeared in a puff of smoke and then walked in behind us through the door!

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. I said, "I'm ordering you to give up your guns before you get hurt." Mad Dog Zeke gave an icy stare. He growled, "Drop'm now or make your move." Onlookers held their breath as they ducked for cover behind barrels that lined the boardwalk. The trio pulled their weapons from the holsters and sent bullets flying toward us. Mad Dog Zeke and Rattlesnake Cedric ricocheted the flurry of bullets off the skillets. Guns flew from the trio's bloodied hands as their own bullets found fresh targets. I kicked their guns aside as they stood holding their mangled hands. I said, "Turn around, boys. The jail is that way." Fish Eye said, "I need a doctor." Wacko and Rio wrappe...

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong, Cedric said, "I hope this goes better than the last trip!" I hoped so too as it was a terrifying ordeal. A whirlwind swept all about us and the shed hurled into the air as though we were in the center of a tornado. When I opened my eyes, we were all standing on the balcony of the palace that overlooked the city. We all let out a sigh of relief that the trip went without any problems. Lucinda and Queen Betty greeted us. Alfred became a human as he always did when we returned to Kira. Kakuna elves served us gobble berry pastries and lemonade while we sat under scarlet parasols. Lucinda asked, "How was your trip today? I hope it was not the dreadful affair you encounte...

Art by Duy Truong................ Tammy meets William Tell ( The Wutherington Diary).......................... Quickly, the gate opened and the villagers raced through it and began battling the soldiers. Arrows were flying all about and soldiers were dropping from the turrets like hail. It was over quickly. The villagers had captured all the soldiers and stood in the middle of the compound grateful that they had won so easily. Baumgarten came down a stairway. He held the bloodied head of the sheriff at his side and held it so all could see. "The sheriff is dead! My wife is a'enged! He will hurt no one from this day!" Everyone cheered and congratulated him. Look for these books from the Wurtherington Diary: The Wurtherington Diary: The L...

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. I asked Polly if she wanted to be big and give us a ride to Sacramento. "Caw, caw, caw!" I said, "Turn around three times and close your eyes And soon you will be close to the skies. Make that which was small, Grow and be so very tall. Alakazim, Alakazam!" She did the turnaround and Polly became as large as ever. We hopped on Polly and flew high overhead and followed the road. We could see a quintet of bandits robbing the stage and running off with the strong box. We circled a few times as I wanted see where they were going.

The Wurtherington Diary: The California Gold Rush art by Duy Truong. I tucked in my little friends for the night. We were all happy to be back in our comfortable beds. I tucked in Zeke. I said, "I am so proud of you, Mad Dog Zeke. You took care of bad guys left and right." "There was nothin' to it, mum—glad to oblige." He unfolded one of the No shootin' posters and handed it to me. I pinned it to the wall. I smiled. "Those are two of the toughest lawmen that ever roamed the West." I tucked in Polly. "I was so very proud of you, Polly. We are so lucky that you are a good bird and can fly us around huntin' down all those bad cowboys." If she could have smiled, she would have done so. How can one tell if a bird is smiling? He...

Art by Duy Truong, Tammy meets William Tell ( The Wurtherington Diary) The men carried their crossbows and gathered at a target range near the river. They had set up a target on a sandy beach that stood about fifty meters off. Everyone took a turn at it. Most everyone hit the target and two had found the bull's-eye. William Tell was the last to shoot. He tested the wind with his finger, then unlatched the trigger of the crossbow. The arrow sailed across the beach and struck the center of the bull's-eye. "Hooray!" they yelled. It was agreed that William Tell was the best marksman of the village. Art from Buffalo Bill and the Pony Express: ( The Wurtherington Diary #6) Art by Duy Truong.......... We were ushered to the palace garden that rested alongside the shimmering blue waters of Lake Kira. It was a cool, clear morn with a slight breeze that drifted ever so gently across the waters. A distant range of snow-capped mountaintops undulated and swelled like a line of long lost fairytale sandcastles. Princess Catherine ( the queen of the bees) gave us a warm welcome. No longer did she look at all like a bee. Her hair was now a golden honey that glistened spectacularly in the sunlight. She explained that she had important business with the bees to attend to after our meeting. "They are my little darlings. Not a day goes by witho...
