Rising from the wooded hillside of the Taff Gorge above the village of Tongwynlais in South Wales UK, are the fairytale towers of Castell Coch (Red Castle). Designed for the third Marquess of Bute by the eccentric Victorian architect William Burges in High Victorian Gothic style, the castle was only ever intended as a countryside retreat from the main residence in Cardiff Castle and was mainly used for entertaining.
