While visiting Paris back in 2013, I had the pleasure of visiting the Louvre twice; once at night and once in the morning. Various night images are available in my portfolio here. This is the first of a few shots taken during my second visit in the morning. Approximately 38,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited. The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace, originally built as a fortress in the late 12th century under Philip II. Remnants of the fortress are visible in the basement of the museum. Due to the urban expansion of the city, the fortress eventually lost its defensive function and, in 1546, was converted by Francis I into the main residence of the French Kings. Wherever you turn your head at the Louvre, inside or outside, there is always something to intrigue the senses. Whether it is the paintings, the statues, the carvings, the reliefs, the artifacts, the architecture, the ceilings, the windows, the doors, the foyers, the courtyards, you name it. If you are a photographer and enjoy a bit of art and history and architecture, this is the place to be. After spending 2 days and 3 nights at the Louvre, unfortunately the time has come to visit other places in Paris. Just as a side note, I went back to visit the Louvre in 2016 with a different photography mission. You will have to wait quite a bit for those images to be processed and posted. The view of the Louvre Palace as seen from the Tuileries Gardens in Paris. The Musée du Louvre is the world's largest art museum and is situated on the right bank of the River Seine. It started life as a castle which was demolished in 1546 to build the palace - the residence of French kings until the eventual move to Versailles. It became a museum in 1793 during the French Revolution to display the country's artistic masterpieces. This image has a digital monochrome pencil sketch finish.
