Staithes Fishing Village, Yorkshire, UK The quaint fishing village of Staithes on the Yorkshire coast is one of our latest finds and well worth a visit if you like coastal resorts. Which ever way you decide to go into Staithes, there is a steep walk down a big hill, whether you go on a cliff walk along the Cleveland Way, or you park in the car park and walk down the main road to the town. We ventured to the opposite side of the harbour to get this view of the town and included the fishermen's lobster pots for foreground interest. Whether you are looking for a jigsaw puzzle or a large print to wow your friends, than you cannot go wrong with this coastal scene

Staithes Village, From The Cliffs, Yorkshire, England Taken from the Southern cliff that overlooks Staithes Village, Yorkshire, England. Although it was very windy, I was able to get a sharp photograph from this stunning location that takes in Staithes harbour, that village and the surrounding cliffs and countryside. At least there is a fence here to prevent you being blown in to the ocean at this lookout point. Also, the clouds really enhance this image which, at a closer look, have so many colours in them.

The village of Staithes located in the Borough of Scarborough, North Yorkshire has a small harbour for the local fishing boats. At low tide the boats sit on the sand, awaiting the incoming tide.

Watercolour and Ink on 140 lb. hot press paper We visited Staithes last month and I went crazy taking all kinds of photos. I so enjoy my visits to this coastal village in North Yorkshire. I painted this view using only created blacks and grays and leaving the white of the paper for area of white. Staithes in North Yorkshire is famous as an artist's community and it is a place that I love to visit as often as possible. This graphite sketch was the preliminary to works in watercolour and acrylic but the spontaneity of this version has prove hard toi beat in conveying the sense of this fabulous stretch of the UK coastline.

The artwork commemorates the old wooden staithes which stood on the spot when the port was the biggest exporter of coal in the world and is pictured here just after sunrise on a calm November morning with the rising sun bursting over the pier and the base of the sculpture.
